The next Netflix film version of The Last Mrs. Parrish, which is based on Liv Constantine's best-selling book, will feature Jennifer Lopez. The casting was revealed by PEOPLE on Thursday, April 17. Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis, who helmed Back to the Future and Forrest Gump, will direct the film.
In December 2017, the 2017 psychological thriller became well-known as a Reese Witherspoon book club selection. Since then, it has been published in more than 34 countries and sold over a million copies.
The plot centres on Amber Patterson, a Connecticut resident who preys on Daphne and Jackson Parrish, an affluent couple, according to a description on Bookshop.org. According to the description, "Amber infiltrates herself into the family's life by using Daphne's empathy and concern, the first step in a careful plan to undermine her."
Amber develops close to Jackson, goes to Europe with the family, and becomes Daphne's best friend. But her goals might be jeopardised by secrets from her past.
Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Jennifer Lopez will co-produce the film through Nuyorican Productions. The film is also being produced by Liza Chasin and Molly Sims.
Variety claims that Netflix began working on the adaptation in September 2021. Academy Award nominees John Gatins (Flight) and Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton) are writing the screenplay.
Lopez is presently filming Office Romance, another Netflix feature, in addition to The Last Mrs. Parrish. She co-wrote the script with Brett Goldstein, who plays Ted Lasso. "This is gonna be a fun one," Lopez wrote on Instagram, expressing her excitement.
After reuniting with Tom Hanks and Robin Wright from Forrest Gump in Here, Robert Zemeckis will return to filmmaking with The Last Mrs. Parrish.
The sports drama Unstoppable was Lopez's most recent appearance. Kiss of the Spider Woman, her next movie, had its Sundance premiere in January and will be released in theatres on October 10.
